Project planning and scheduling (and budgeting, estimating etc) is a core activity of any engineering and construction firm. However, there are many  planner/schedulers who provide the specialist expertise and skills. These people are usually required because they have knowledge and skills which are lacking in many engineering and construction firms.

I was one of those consultants. Almost without exception, whenever I have had an assignment or an engagement by one of my clients, I have observed various  dysfunctional aspects of their management systems. Call me fussy. The flaws and faults were sometimes so severely handicapping the effectiveness of the business process and the contractor’s ability to have some level of transparency and control.
